Wishing you a peaceful Christmas

"The true meaning of Christmas is that the very Being that you are is Truth. This is what Jesus meant when he said, 'I am the way and the truth and the life.'

Jesus speaks of the inner essence identity of every human being. Some Christian writers call this the “Christ within”. The real meaning of Christmas is to find that essential self that is universally experienced as the Christ within no matter what your cultural or religious upbringing is. " Eckard Tolle - Tolle Teachings

I like this. I like thinking about my own inner essence as well as that of other people. It's a wonderful thing to do, particularly when we feel irritated or angered by another. To find that essential self in yourself and in others is something I would like to practice every day of the year. But if this time in December, when many people on this planet celebrate one thing or another, inspires everybody to be more aware of their inner essence, to find stillness in these times of presents and food and cakes and drink, then I think we're all a step closer to peace.

At our home we no longer celebrate Christmas in a big way. We get together with family and friends and we do less. I love the candles and fire and gentle music, but I know longer bow down to the pressures of doing anything any particular way, just because that's how it's done or has always been done.

We eat a vegan meal, some cooked, some raw and we do eat cake. Fortunately this year, my friend Jasmin from Green and Grainy has supplied us with a wonderful selection of her raw, wholesome bars.

I did make some 'Christmas Pudding Balls' though. It was really because every time I opened our bottle of On Guard essential oil, people would say that it smells of Christmas. We've been using On Guard all through the winter to protect us from colds and flus. I have been dispensing it to friends and family when I see them suffer with sniffles and coughs and sore throats. We put a couple of drops in our morning green juice and I like to diffuse it. So why not in a little snack ball.

So here is the recipe:

2 cups/300g mixed vine fruit
2 cup/120g almonds
1 cup/80g broken cashews

1 cup/75g brazil nuts
1 cup/60g walnuts

1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp ground ginger
3 drops Wild Orange essential oil*
3 drops On Guard essential oil blend*
1 tsp whiskey or brandy (optional)

2 tbsp raw cacao powder

Place the almonds, vine fruit and cashews in a food processor and process until you have a fairly even dough.

Add the remainder of the ingredients and process until the mass sticks together but you still have small bits of nut.

Roll into small balls and turn in the cacao powder until well covered. Store in the fridge. Probably not for long, as they are totally delicious.

* If you don't have essential oils, and don't want to invest in them, use some lemon juice and zest, and add some ground clove.

Wishing you all a peaceful and compassionate Holiday Season, what ever and wherever you celebrate. Remember, that true compassion includes all beings. Share the Love.
